Supporting our Community

For over 28 years

Aotea Electric Canterbury has been in the Christchurch community since 1993

We employ local people and purchase from local businesses but we feel that this is not enough. As long standing members of the Canterbury community it is important for us to give back, share our expertise and work with a sustainable and ethical ethos.

Aotea Electric Canterbury works with and sponsors the following Canterbury businesses and charities. We are proud to give back and be part of such a supportive and beautiful community.

The Crusaders

The mighty Crusaders are the most successful team in the Super Rugby competitions history and have won a collective of 10 titles. Formed in 1996 to represent the upper South Island of New Zealand they are the current Super Rugby champions, making Cantabrians proud.

Crusaders is so much more than a rugby team. In their own words:

"We're here to do good for each other. Welcoming others into our whānau and building belonging in something that's more than rugby. It's family. Every member of this family works hard, so we can get through those hard times, together...enabling people to enjoy themselves, to be themselves."

Trees For Canterbury

Trees for Canterbury was founded in 1990 and has developed into a fully functional nursery and welfare-providing organisation.

Many of the native plants grown are utilised in community and revegetation projects. The remainder is sold at the nursery to provide a degree of self-funding.

Trees for Canterbury is strongly linked to the local community, providing environmental education, providing native plants and undertaking plantings with community organisations and schools throughout Canterbury.

Cholmondeley Children's Home

Cholmondeley offers short-term respite care for whānau with children aged 3-12. Respite care is offered in time of whānau stress or crisis or a planned visit can be made for a greater focus on well-being for everyone.

Cholmondeley has supported close to 30,000 Canterbury children since 1925 and now cares for over 500 children every year. We are proud to support this amazing charity both financially and practically.

As well as our direct support for the children's charity, we also sponsored 'Atomik Waves', one of the Pop-up-Penguins that descended on Christchurch in 2021. The auction of the penguins raised over $1m for the charity.

Isaac Theatre Royal

The Isaac Theatre Royal is the spiritual heart of Canterbury’s arts scene. An iconic theatrical venue that has played host to spectacular shows and spellbound audiences for more than a century.

Over the years, its unique ambience and its exceptional acoustics have attracted some of the world’s most acclaimed entertainers and storytellers, and some of the world's most-loved plays and musicals, operas and orchestras, concerts, ballets and comedic performances.

Life Education Trust

Life Education is a charity that works in schools to educate and inspire children and young people to make positive choices. They provide programmes focused around health and wellbeing, delivered through interactive learning experiences in schools.

Through their Healthy Harold Programme they deliver individualised health and wellbeing learning experiences. We are delighted to offer our expertise and resources to rewire, maintain and make safe the portable classrooms used by Life Education.

SCAPE

SCAPE Public Art installs public art in Christchurch all year round with a focus on the annual Seasons. SCAPE Public Art is the Christchurch expert in the installation of public art, and the SCAPE Public Art Seasons are New Zealand's Premier Public Art Events.

Over the past 22 years they have become the largest producer of new contemporary public artwork in New Zealand. These artworks provide a unique point of difference for the city. Ambitious and high impact, they enhance the urban centre and raise the profile for public art in Christchurch.

We have been involved in several SCAPE projects including lighting up Vaka 'A Hina.

Dress For Success

Every year, hundreds of Christchurch women of all ages make the decision to enter the workforce. Some have spent years dedicating their time to family, others are unemployed, and some are entering work for the first time.

Dress for Success Christchurch provides these women guidance, support, tools and confidence, to shape their own financial futures. Find out here how we helped light up their new premises.
